Read what
people have to "say" about my visits
All my
presentations include a grade appropriate explanation
of how a picture book is made. I explain what everyone’s
job is from writer to illustrator to publisher. I show
examples of the process of the making of the picture book
including a manuscript, the illustrator’s initial
sketches, and the colored proofs. For the older grades,
revision is discussed. All visits include the opportunity
to purchase signed copies of my books. Order forms will
be provided prior to a visit.

Preschool
- Kindergarten
Includes an interactive reading
and a craft that ties in with the storyline as
well as a very simple rhyming
exercise.
- 30 minutes -
1-2
grade
Includes an interactive reading.
We discuss revision and do a writing exercise in
rhyme and discuss how some
words may sound alike even though they are spelled differently.
- 40 minutes -
3-5
grade
Includes a reading and
one of the following:
“Build
a story” focuses on where
ideas come from and how to create exciting
characters.
Students will use visuals to pull together
an opening paragraph
of a story.
- 50 minutes -
“Show
don’t tell” teaches
students to use writing tools like
dialogue,
action
verbs and their five senses. Instead of telling their
reader (BORING!!!) they will learn how
to effectively use these tools and add
punch
and excitement
to their writing. I bring my “think outside the box” box
where the students participate in a fun and interactive “show
don’t tell” writing exercise.
